Today, former President Barack Obama issued a sweeping call to action in his eulogy for civil rights icon and longtime Georgia Congressman John Lewis. The heroic American had no tolerance for those who cheat human beings of their civil rights.

“I’ve come here today because I, like so many Americans, owe a great debt to John Lewis and his forceful vision of freedom.”

Aloha e Mr. Hoshijo,
I wrote to you October 7, 2019 (letter), as I felt your staff was engaging in bias to the advantage of Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI), which was prejudicing my complaint. You responded saying you would ensure our family be treated fairly. We are not, as I wrote on July 14th and on July 26th.
I served President Obama on his campaign 2008 and 2012. He assisted our family in a civil rights matter 2013. I am forwarding details of The Commission’s pattern of discrimination to our former president and Michelle at this time.
The Commission first assigned Mr. Wayne Akana to our case. He treated us kindly. He also informed us he was required to draft the complaint. We agreed and cooperated. He then transferred the case to Mr. Duffy Jamieson. He claimed Mr. Akana’s complaint wasn’t written correctly, and required me to re-draft the document. Apparently Mr. Duffy didn’t know what he was doing.
I re-wrote the complaint. Mr. Jamieson then extended Hawaiian Electric over three months to respond. This is unreasonable; most are given two weeks. Then, Mr. Jamieson dropped the ball. He didn’t complete the work The People of Hawai’i paid him to do. He left for the mainland with our money in hand. This is theft of taxpayer dollars. Ethical people complete their assignments or make arrangements for their assigned work to be completed. Mr. Jamieson failed to act professionally.
Now, Mr. Stephen K.L. Chang, supervisor of investigators, refuses to move our complaint forward. He won’t assign our case to an investigator. I realize there are many cases, as there is much cheating in Hawai’i. Our case is over a year old. If our matter had no merit, Mr. Akana or Mr. Jamieson would have recommended dismissal long ago.
We all conclude this case is valid. Attorney for Hawaiian Electric, Mr. Joseph A. Ernst, warned local companies to update their policies prior to the confusion we suffered (see Presentation). He informed managers the policy framework had evolved. Hawaiian Electric was negligent in their duties.
“[John Lewis] knew from his own life that progress is fragile, that we have to be vigilant against the darker currents of this country’s history, of our own history, where there are whirlpools of violence and hatred and despair that can always rise again.”

Yesterday, a female colleague took issue with one of my political commentaries (story). That’s her right. Since she called me a racist/sexist, which wasn’t professional, I blogged the incident. Gave me an opportunity to provide background about our successful work.
In 2008, we began a process to PROTECT some 20,000+ poor, primarily Latino and Brown migrate worker families. It took until June 2016 for our actions to prevail — some 7-8 years.
I am part of over 30,000+ suffering human beings in Hawai’i. Hawaiian Electric cheated me and denies employment to all of us. I refuse to quit on this matter. We will prevail as well. Science is on our side and this racist policy will soon be ended. You and Mr. Chang are defending racist action and officials. History will remember you for this failure.
I learned in 2008 my bureau chief, Mark Llewellyn, falsified public records. He abused the privilege of his office. Mr. Chang now abuses the privilege extended him by the Commission and good people of Hawai’i. It’s not his right to put his “thumb on the scale” of justice.
The facts in this matter are simple and straight-forward. There were and remains no need to extend powerful Hawaiian Electric any advantages. I am only a Menehune. Mr. Ernst is bright and talented. Let our family have our day in court, so to speak.
I posted my comments about Mr. Llewellyn online yesterday. Sent the link to NM Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and copied ALL major media in the state. I continue to make sure the public remains aware of Mr. Llewellyn’s malfeasance. His family will be alerted; friends and relatives will learn the truth. SEE:
The Internet allows us to “remember” crimes of the powerful in perpetuity. The #MeToo movement and other activism gives the non-powerful an ability to expose abusers.
Mr. Chang is cheating. You are now cheating our family and over 30,000+ residents in Hawai’i. Is this the legacy you want for the Commission, yourself and Mr. Chang?
As a disciple of John Lewis, he taught all: See something; Say something. Now is the time. I will be … we will be … silent no more. The time for silence is over.
