U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard calls on governor to fire Hawai’i Health Department bureaucrats over incompetent and disastrous response to SARS-CoV-2. She needs to extend her request to include the governor and many national officials as well.
Since March 26th, 3,000 visitors have come into the state. Gov. David Ige mandated a simple 14-day self-quarantine for all arriving trans-Pacific passengers. The governor provides no enforcement.
View from my apartment as commercial passenger planes arrive about every 3-5 minutes. How is this possible during a deadly pandemic?
Spanish Flu broke out around 1918. It’s now believed la grippe may have started in the U.S. and spread throughout the world due to war. Other research suggests it spread to the U.S. and Canada from China with the importation of Chinese labor.
Similar to COVID-19, initial symptoms of Spanish flu included a splitting headache and tiredness, followed by a dry, hacking cough; loss of appetite; stomach problems; and then, on later days, excessive sweating due to fever. Severe cases of the illness affected respiratory organs and pneumonia could develop. Sound familiar?
Spanish Flu appears to be a strain of H1N1, similar to what hit the world around 2009. La Grippe may have led to some 50 million deaths worldwide. They #MaskedUp. We forgot history.
“Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
People engaged in physical (social) distancing and wore face masks. They kept working.
Conductors on public transportation continued to work while wearing masks.
People not #MaskedUp today. Riders on Honolulu public transportation not required to wear masks or face coverings. Bus driver in Detroit died due to a rider coughing on him. All unmasked individuals were male. President Trump has never been shown wearing a mask.
Police continued their duties while wearing face masks.
Police in Honolulu, as well as police and officers on Kaua’i have not been wearing masks.
American Officials 2020
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams briefed the world about SARS-CoV-2 on March 19th. No masks. No physical (social) distancing. Bad example to the public. Unqualified leadership. Americans are sick and dying due to their incompetence.
[February 29, 2020] “Seriously people. STOP BUYING MASKS!”
“They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!”
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams
Democratic U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (NY) doesn’t wear face mask properly. Bad example for citizens. Poor leadership.
Former VP Joe Biden and current Democratic challenger for president shown wearing a face mask. The political post is fake. President Trump still has not donned a mask.
First Lady Melania Trump urges Americans to #MaskUp today (April 9th) on social media. Excellent advice — two moths late.
Why Masking Is So Important
Researchers from Aalto University, the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), Technical and Innovation Centre VTT and Helsinki University developed a 3D model of a person coughing in an indoor environment — showing how a SARS-CoV-2 cloud travels through the air.
California cities fining citizens for not wearing face masks up to $1,000.
Texas community fines citizens for not wearing face masks or some type of covering over their nose and mouth.
Americans Need Common Sense
As a nation, we’re not the brightest bulbs in the container. Child in the picture below contracts infection. Passes COVID-19 to family at home. Two ladies not even aware. Cart was likely disinfected prior to use. Yet mother’s hands carry SARS-CoV-2. She grabs handle. Child puts her mouth there.
Michael Jackson forwards a meme suggesting there are TWO FACTORS driving the spread of COVID-19: how dense is the population AND how dense is the population.
Mike lives in Idaho. There are far fewer cases in rural Idaho than densely-populated NYC. Mike is correct. He’s missing the 3rd factor: how dense are public officials?
“The big mistake in the US and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren’t wearing masks.”
Gao Fu, director general, Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention
Amber (Noe) Noelani Haleakala points out a relatively obvious concern most citizens now have. We are fighting two battles: SARS-CoV-2 and stupidity.
Don’t be a Coconut Head. Wear a face mask or covering whenever outdoors or around people. #MaskUp
