UPDATE 7.2.25: U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) Apologizes
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) apologized to NYC Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani on Monday after facing swift backlash for Islamophobic comments she recently made in a radio interview about her fellow New York Democrat. The senator spoke over the phone with the state assembly member and “apologized for mischaracterizing Mamdani’s record and for her tone in the interview.” Stanley Yavheh Klos and others owe the Mr Mamdani an apology as well.

We found ourselves on opposite teams recently over the continued Israeli murder of more than 55,000+ human beings — over 20,000+ children — in Gaza, the continued genocide, and last week’s primary victory of Zohran Mamdami in the NYC mayoral race. Naomi Yavneh Klos holds a prestigious position with the University of New Mexico. Stan’s public comments reflect on her role with the Honors College.
Mr Mamdami is a Muslim American and Social Democrat, similar to Jewish American and U.S Senator Bernie Sanders. Stan posted a meme on social media labeling Mr Mandami a communist.
I responded, “Quite a racist post, brother. Your ZIONISM is showing. Throughout history, Muslims protected Jews. Christians claimed ‘Jews killed the Christ.'”

My position is simple. UN Resolution 181 (1947) was an unpopular agreement forced on inhabitants in the Palestine Mandate, people who were Christian, Jewish and Muslim, as well as nations in the region that were both Shiite and Sunni Muslim with pockets of Christian and Jewish inhabitants.
The agreement demanded TWO STATES be carved from the Palestine Mandate. Now, nearly 80-years later, there has been NO progress toward the Palestinian nation, and Zionists have taken most of the region for Israel. They will soon absorb Gaza. Respectfully, your comment misrepresents both my post and the message behind it.
Criticizing government overreach or questioning the feasibility of state-run grocery stores has nothing to do with race or religion. It’s about governance, economics, and public safety, concerns shared by citizens of all backgrounds.
The image I posted is symbolic. It depicts authoritarian ideologies—theocratic, communist, and fascist ascending a ladder toward power under the banner of democratic office. The NYC Mayor’s office in the image could just as easily represent any elected seat being used to undermine liberty. The “ladder” is historical how totalitarian systems use democratic entry points to destroy the very freedoms they claim to protect.
The quote is my own, and it reflects a timeless truth: “No republic can long endure a citizenry ignorant of history, for such people are easily swayed by passion over principle, transforming democracy into a conduit for tyranny, be it theocratic, communist, or fascist.”
As for your claim that “Muslims protected Jews,” history is far more nuanced. Yes, there were periods of coexistence in places like medieval Spain or the Ottoman Empire. But there were also pogroms, forced conversions, jizya (taxes on non-Muslims), and systematic discrimination across much of the Islamic world. Likewise, while early Christianity wrongly accused Jews of deicide, a position the Vatican officially renounced in 1965, weaponizing ancient grievances does nothing to improve today’s civic discourse.
Finally, citing a website titled “Death to Israel” is not only abhorrent, it proves the point. Replacing rational debate with hate propaganda only drives society further toward division and instability.
We must hold our leaders accountable, regardless of background, and defend free enterprise, public order, and constitutional rights without fear of being falsely labeled. Let’s debate ideas, not smear people.

“One of the main reasons my bride accepted the position as Dean of the Honors College at the University of New Mexico was that it would place us just five hours away from nine of our twelve grandchildren living in Colorado. Here’s a photo of seven of our nine Coloradans.”

Enjoyed my time at UNM within the political science department, instrumental in the growth of the Latin American Institute working with Dr Karen Remmer, that provides such critical work to help reduce INEQUALITY in our nation and world, I’m truly SADDENED today that you bring your extremist Right-Wing philosophy to this region.
Socialism ideologies developed in Latin and South America, not through the patterns as hypothesized by Marx, Engles and others. They claimed the AWESOME POWER of capitalism would enrich the private sector so greatly that people would simply bring their excess to the public square for those in need to share.
Socialism developed instead because of the GREED of the FEW who take so much and leave so many in misery. Socialist leaders today promise to tax the rich and force redistribution of wealth to the poor … as the poor are so desperate.
You also corrupt the promise of UN Resolution 181 (1947), which demanded TWO states and an OPEN Jerusalem in the Palestine Mandate.
