On Monday, October 14, 2024, my friend Koa (@Koa_Anuenue) posted a Happy Columbus Day meme on X (formerly Twitter). I liked the post and added a favorable comment. I do not support the current movement by the political Left to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous People’s Day. Why divide America and fight? It’s my opinion that Columbus Day should remain a national observation, while the USA adds an Indigenous People’s Day on a separate occasion. Let’s honor the memory of both. Diversity is our strength.

I believe Columbus was a courageous and inspirational human being. The prevailing narrative at the time was sailing west from Europe would lead to disaster and death. Columbus had the courage to try. Many people thought he was insane. Many in his crew certainly did.
Once Columbus landed on October 12, 1492, on what is known now as San Salvador Island in the Bahamas, Columbus committed terrible crimes against the indigenous people. Upon return, he was punished, stripped of rank, and imprisoned. The “insanity” that propelled Columbus to courageously sail boldly into the unknown, also left Columbus without compassion and empathy for other human beings.
The political Left wants to erase Columbus. I want Americans to remember and learn. Some explorers after Columbus learned. They evolved to be more respectful of indigenous people and culture. British Captain James Cooks’ initial encounter with native Hawaiian (Kanaka) tribes was positive and respectful in 1778. His third meeting was unfortunate. Kanaka stole one of the ship’s long boats. Cook was killed in confusion as he tried to retrieve British property.
Some explorers of course did not learn or evolve. The lessons of Columbus were lost on them. And, humans still commit atrocities today. Israel is currently perpetrating genocide in Gaza as all of us around the world watch. The INSANITY of humanoids continues.
Jamie Eddy Hive Realty Group is an Unethical Thief
Apparently Jamie Eddy, or someone from her brokerage firm, the Hive Realty Group, thought my words were remarkable, and wanted to use my comments for Jamie’s commercial purposes.
Happy Columbus Day !!! All humans in America and Hawai’i are indigenous. All humans came from somewhere else. Columbus had the COURAGE to boldly go where no European had gone before. Columbus was an imperfect man in an imperfect world; and ALL OF US are imperfect today. Columbus OPENED doors to new civilizations, ideas, customs and people.
RealtorJamieEddie lifted my comments, copied my comments, stole my comments. RealtorJamieEddie did not ask me; RealtorJamieEddie did not seek my permission; RealtorJamieEddie simply stole my words — and these words as published on Facebook are my copyrighted property, pursuant to Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17).
By accident, I happened to see a meme scroll by on my newsfeed. Had no advance notification. Imagine my shock to see the following commercial publication on Facebook.

Jamie Eddy had stolen my words, my copyrighted protected comments, and used my created copy as her own for commercial and financial gain … to profit from my work. Jamie Eddy did not ask me. Jamie Eddie simply STOLE my work, used it as her own, without credit or permission, clearly for the purpose of promoting JAMIE EDDY, Associate Broker, the Hive Realty Group.
In my opinion and belief, Jamie Eddy is an UNETHICAL thief.
Immediately I objected to the post. I received a personal message, “So sorry I thought it was well stated. I removed it.”

Sorry? Jamie Eddy did not ask permission. Jamie Eddy published a promotional advertisement across social media. How many readers viewed the advertisement? How many times was it shared? Did Jamie Eddy post the commercial promotion to social media on other platforms? How could I know how far Jamie Eddy had shared my copyrighted words that Jamie Eddy thought were “well stated.”
I believe my words were well stated also. I’m a professional writer. Provide marketing services for online clients. Jamie Eddy stole my words. Used my “well stated” words for her profit. She didn’t care to ask me first. In my book, that makes Jamie Eddy an UNETHICAL thief.
Egregiously, Jamie Eddy DELETED, ERASED the attached Happy Columbus Day graphic from Koa, and INSERTED her own picture, business logo and information, as well as political and social commentary.

I crafted my words and designed the meme to support Happy Columbus Day. Jamie Eddy STOLE my words, without permission, without compensating me, and altered the INTENT of my design to REFLECT her political and social values, and promote herself, Jamie Eddy Associate Broker, as well as her company, the Hive Realty Group. Can’t get more unethical than this, can one?
Jamie Eddy wrote to me:
I explained how sorry I am. My assistant is suppose to find content and credit the author. Unfortunately it didn’t happen as fast for the author for the credit to appear. She is new and I have a training scheduled. Thank you for your maturity and problem solving skills. She is in high school and got scared she didn’t want to get fired so she deleted and “unfriended” you. With deepest sympathy I hope we can resolve any misfortune towards you.
Jamie Eddy
Jamie Eddy tasked her assistant to “FIND CONTENT” and credit the author. No credit was given.
Jamie Eddy gaslighted me, “Unfortunately it didn’t happen as fast for the author for the credit to appear.” Jamie Eddy BLAMED me … the author … for the credit not happening fast enough. Listen, Jamie Eddy, you ASK for permission FIRST. You do not take, use, publish, distribute, and then seek authorization from the author or add credit.
Jamie Eddy threw her assistant “under the bus” adding, “She is new and I have a training scheduled.” Not my concern. Jamie Eddy FAILED to properly train her assistant.
Jamie Eddy appears to nurture a HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT: “She is in high school and got scared she didn’t want to get fired so she deleted and ‘unfriended’ you.” Why was she “scared” that she might get fired? Jamie Eddy failed to train her fully. Not the fault of the young employee. Jamie Eddy should fire herself for negligent supervision.
Was also disturbed that Team Jamie Eddy “unfriended” me. This action is retaliatory. I did nothing wrong. I objected to Jamie Eddy using my copyrighted words. For speaking up, RealtorJamieEddie unfriended me.
Legal Issues
Jamie Eddy ADMITTED FAULT: “I explained how sorry I am. My assistant is suppose (sic) to find content and credit the author.” Didn’t happen. Credit was never given. More importantly, Jamie Eddy missed a step. Assistant should “find content,” then “ask permission” from the author, then “credit” the author. Jamie Eddy admits she didn’t instruct her assistant to obtain permission to use content they find.
Jamie Eddy KNOWS she should obtain permission: “Unfortunately it didn’t happen as fast for the author for the credit to appear. She is new and I have a training scheduled.” Negligent management. Jamie Eddy directed her young assistant to do work, yet did not train her fully.
Jamie Eddy PROMISED: “With deepest sympathy I hope we can resolve any misfortune towards you.”
I made numerous attempts to resolve this misfortune:
Aloha Jamie … appreciate you reaching out. You wrote, “My assistant is suppose to find content and credit the author. Unfortunately it didn’t happen as fast for the author for the credit to appear.”
You say you plan to train your assistance. My PhD work is political science. I teach HS and college students. Generally, the expectation is to ASK the author before TAKING any materials or content. Or we put published materials in quotes, citing the author at the time.
In this case, your assistant took what was mine without asking. She made a nice graphic for you, but did not quote me or cite me in the work. She is not authorized to PUBLISH that work, and then seek out the original author after the fact.
Someone, you say your assistant, then UNFRIENDED me … and UNFRIENDING is not easy. It was a deliberate and intentional act.
Jamie Eddy responded, “I hear and acknowledge. Thank you for your understanding. She was scared and her actions are proof. Again so sorry for any harm towards you.”
Settlement Offer #1
Although RealtorJamieEddie may have removed this one marketing and promotional advertisement, I have no way to know my copyrighted property was not published elsewhere, copied or shared.
This matter is more concerning, because it was a professional effort. RealtorJamieEddie took considerable steps to intentionally and deliberately design this marketing and promotional advertisement. RealtorJamieEddie additionally took considerable action to intentionally and deliberately “unfriend” me — rather than reaching out to seek resolution. This retaliation bothers me greatly. RealtorJamieEddie punished me for standing up for my copyrighted property.
As the bell cannot be “unrung” after my copyrighted property was taken without permission and published for distribution without my permission, the only remedy seems to be to SELL RealtorJamieEddie the copyright for this content. RealtorJamieEddie can then freely and widely distribute this marketing and promotional as desired.
At this time, I offered to SETTLE this matter FULLY for the sum of $500.00 [Five hundred dollars] payable through my account at either Venmo or PayPal. RealtorJamieEddie will be ONE legal copyright holder of the listed text, and legally entitled to distribute the RealtorJamieEddie promotional materials. I will remain the other owner of the copyrighted text. I will grant no other parties the right to use this protected content.
Jamie Eddy published my offer online. Seems unprofessional and a violation of good faith. If I made an offer on a home to Jamie Eddy, Associate Broker, the Hive Realty Group, and Jamie Eddy published my offer online, I would consider that action to be a breach of confidential information. I withdrew my offer.
Settlement Offer #2
Due to the perceived violation of good faith by publicly posting my offer, I made a second offer and this time emphasized that RealtorJamieEddie DELETED my political & social commentary, INSERTED opposing political & social commentary, and ATTACHED their picture and business logo to my copyrighted content. I consider these additional transgressions to constitute malice!
Thus, I made a second attempt to resolve this dispute amicably and quickly. I extended a settlement offer to sell Jamie Eddy my copyrighted literary work for $1,000.00 [ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS].
Jamie Eddy responded with an official letter, titled: RE: Cease and Desist – Harassment
This letter serves as notice to you to immediately cease and desist all harassing activities against and towards me, including but not limited to:
- Slander on Facebook
- Blackmail through email
- Harassment through Facebook and email
Your actions are unwanted, embarrassing, aggressive, threatening, and have become unbearable to me. Your actions also infringe upon my right to remain free from harassment. As a result of your harassment, I have suffered:
- substantial harm to my business
- substantial harm to my reputation
- substantial harm to my character
- emotional and physical stress
If you do not cease and desist the harassment, I will be forced to take appropriate legal action against you and will seek all available damages and remedies.

Who Is Jamie Eddy?
Jamie Eddy, AKA Jayme Eddie 97, promotes herself on social media, as Associate Broker at the Hive Realty Group, outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and the beach. Appears to live in Ogden, Utah. Screenshots were taken from Jamie Eddy’s Facebook account. We were “friends.” Jamie Eddy’s team unfriended me over this incident.

I initially was connected to:
https:// www. facebook. com/ RealtorJamieEddy
I am now BLOCKED from that Facebook page, and now routed to:
https:// www. facebook. com/ JaymeEddie97
Jamie Eddy included the LOGO of the Hive Realty Group in her promotional commercial advertisement. Clicking on the Hive Realty Group FACEBOOK icon (upper right) forwarded me to Michelle Rounds Williams page at:
https:// www. facebook. com/ michelle.roundswilliams

Michelle is listed as the broker of the Hive Realty Group PLLC in Ogden, Utah. Jamie Eddy included the Hive Realty Group when infringing on my copyrighted intellectual property.

The Hive Realty Group lists Michelle Williams, Associate Broker, along with Kelly Wing.

Utah Real Estate.com lists Hive Realty Group PLLC with Michelle Williams as broker, and Jamie Eddy as one of their agents.

Jamie Eddy posted the following home listing: “Seller asked me to share! THEY ARE OFFERING A BUYERS AGENT BONUS FOR THE NEXT 30 DAYS! Bring an acceptable offer within 30 days and they will show their appreciation!”

Personally, I am not interested in selecting a broker who infringes on copyright of other people for their marketing materials. Seek a professional I can trust. Due to the way Jamie Eddy treated me over this incident, I do not believe I could trust Jamie Eddy or the Hive Realty Group PLLC of Ogden, Utah, with a major decision like purchasing or selling a home. Other people of course may have a different opinion.
From Jamie Eddy’s public Facebook account, I found many pictures of her and friends. NOTE: Jamie Eddy’s account is actually listed: JaymeEddie97. I have trust issues with people who take copyrighted information without permission, as well as have different spellings of their name.

Lessons Learned
It is my hope in publishing the facts, history, background of parties involved, as well as the legal issues, that users of social media will have a better understanding of their obligations and responsibilities to others concerning copyright of content, graphics and commentary. Here are some additional legal considerations:
Ownership of Content Posted
Refers to the original owner and/or creator of content. Even though social media networks have rights to content on their platforms per their licensing agreements, social media users are the legal owners of the content they post.
Obtain Proper Licensing and Permission
If using third-party content would greatly benefit your brand, be sure to obtain proper licensing and ask for permission. As Kelley puts it, “Permission, permission and permission are the three most important things to know about social media copyright.” [source]
Once an individual CREATES work; PUBLISHES that work on social media, the individual maintains the COPYRIGHT of that information. Law is clear. [source]
If another person takes that copyrighted content, uses it for COMMERCIAL purposes, that party has violated Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17).
“Copyright owner”, with respect to any one of the exclusive rights comprised in a copyright, refers to the owner of that particular right.
A work is “created” when it is fixed in a copy or phonorecord for the first time; where a work is prepared over a period of time, the portion of it that has been fixed at any particular time constitutes the work as of that time, and where the work has been prepared in different versions, each version constitutes a separate work.
To “display” a work means to show a copy of it, either directly or by means of a film, slide, television image, or any other device or process or, in the case of a motion picture or other audiovisual work, to show individual images nonsequentially.
The term “financial gain” includes receipt, or expectation of receipt, of anything of value, including the receipt of other copyrighted works.
A work is “fixed” in a tangible medium of expression when its embodiment in a copy or phonorecord, by or under the authority of the author, is sufficiently permanent or stable to permit it to be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated for a period of more than transitory duration. A work consisting of sounds, images, or both, that are being transmitted, is “fixed” for purposes of this title if a fixation of the work is being made simultaneously with its transmission.
102. Subject matter of copyright: In general
(a) Copyright protection subsists, in accordance with this title, in original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression, now known or later developed, from which they can be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated, either directly or with the aid of a machine or device. Works of authorship include the following categories:
(1) literary works;
(2) musical works, including any accompanying words;
(3) dramatic works, including any accompanying music;
(4) pantomimes and choreographic works;
(5) pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works;
(6) motion pictures and other audiovisual works;
(7) sound recordings; and
(8) architectural works.
