Scott Goold WARNS of Looming Disaster in Kahuku, Hawaii

Scott Goold has warned for years about the incompetence, negligence and cruelty of senior management and executives at Hawaiian Electric. Scott now warns of a looming, impending disaster in Kahuku region of O’ahu, Hawai’i. Governor Josh Green, Mayor Rick Blangiardi, Honolulu City Councilors Matt Weyer (District 2: Kahuku) and Tommy Waters (District 4, Chair), media and others are officially alerted and warned.

UPDATE 12.18.24: Wind Turbines To Come Down, MAYBE
After years of debate and public activists working to protect our families, Kahuku’s controversial 568-foot-tall wind turbines may finally be coming down. Starting in 2031, that is. IN 2031 !!! Maybe!!! After residents are squashed or injured.

The Honolulu City Council decided last week to side with reasoned and wise residents, and bring the turbines down at the end of their current 20-year contracts. The last batch would come down in 2040. Hilarious!!! People will likely be dead by then.

Family members in the community have long complained about health issues such as headaches, sleep issues and seizures that they’ve claim come from the nearby turbines. Why do turbines need to be located near to our poorer communities? Many call such placement “environmental racism.”

UPDATE 7.4.24: HECO Time of Use Plan Destroys Middle Class Families
SHIFT & SAVE or (Time of Use) plans destroy MIDDLE CLASS families and HELP RICH people. Middle Class families are at work or in school during the CHEAP TIMES (9AM – 5PM) … and pay HIGHEST PRICES when home in evening. HECO helps the RICH and forces Middle Class families to move to mainland.

National Average is about 16 cents / kWh. HECO rates are about 50 cents / kWh from 5PM to 10PM, when most Middle Class families use electricity for AC cooling, cooking, laundry and entertainment.

UPDATE 6.27.24: New Project Seeks To Build Offshore Wind Farms In Kaiwi Channel
Project could help state reach renewable energy goals, sourcing power to approximately 300,000 homes — but at what cost?

New Project Seeks To Build Offshore Wind Farms In Kaiwi Channel

Annabelle Ink reported that Aukahi Energy, in a partnership between Progression Energy and EDF Renewables North America, seeks approval to build floating offshore windmills north of the Kaiwi Channel, near Makapuu Point. If approved, the project will produce enough clean electricity to power around 300,000 homes.

Aukahi Energy’s proposal faces criticism about potential impact on wildlife that make the Kaiwi Channel so special — birds, fish and whales, to name a few.

After living, learning Hawaiian culture and working in various professions on the island of Kaua’i for over a decade, Hawaiian Electric (HECO) recruited Scott Goold to serve as a contract employee for their IT Department in Honolulu, island of O’ahu. Scott is a public health professional, specialist in energy and environmental programs, and Big Data IT analyst. HECO considered Scott’s background to be a perfect fit. Scott’s direct supervisor, Lori Yafuso, wrote in her review of his performance:

YOU have been a great asset to our team and it is your personality and humble nature that makes all of us so comfortable working together. We have had contractors on the DBA team before, but never with the synergy and positive energy that you bring with you. I believe you have had the greatest influence in our success and glad that we selected the right contractor. You have definitely made your mark here at HECO and have set the bar very high for future contractors!

Thank you for being you…keep doing what you do…keep that good karma flowing!

Lori Yafuso, IT Department manager

Due to Scott’s exceptional service and contribution, HECO offered him a permanent employment position. Scott passed all prerequisites. HECO selected Scott. HECO required a pre-employment drug screen. Scott informed his HR rep, Liz Deer, that he suffered injuries and disability, which required pain medication at night — never during working hours. Deer and HR director Shana Buco led Scott to believe he would be fine. He wasn’t. HECO fired Scott two weeks later. Scott’s frustrated coworker had this to say:

Hi Scott, I personally never saw any evidence of you being impaired. Quite the contrary in fact. I would say sharp, expedient, professional, techical, humble, the whole package really. But I did notice you had a limp, so I suspected you were in pain, but you never mentioned anything, and I never bothered to ask, our conversations were always about getting things done, and you delivered in times when we had to deliver and get things done.

Marijuana is a complex issue, often misunderstood, has been known to relieve pain, and when used correctly does not impair.

Sean Nakasone, IT Department colleague and coworker

Not only did the wrongful termination tarnish Scott’s reputation and destroy his career, HECO also frustrated their own IT Department. Scott was an integral and essential team player in the department’s mission to update and upgrade IT Security across O’ahu, Maui and Big Island. The incompetence of HECO HR put HECO employees at risk — they failed to pre-test Scott when he arrived initially. Had Scott actually posed a threat, HECO failed to protect the company and coworkers, [see HECO SAP 5.0, August 2015].

HECO now risked the safety and integrity of the performance updates across the island chain by removing a critical and essential employee in the middle of sensitive and complex IT re-programming process. Scott began warning Hawai’i residents of the incompetence and cruelty of HECO senior executives and officials. For speaking out, HECO retaliated.

Asian management at Hawaiian Electric claims they are not “immune from criticism,” but those who criticize are shunned, ostracized and punished by supporters of the over $4 BILLION corporation.

Hedge fund CEO Jeff Ubben, ValueAct Capital, sent out a letter sharply criticizing management of HECO’s parent company in November 2019, which was a typical first step in a characteristically aggressive campaign to demand corporate reform by the San Francisco-based activist investor.

Due to overwhelming cries of foul by HEI CEO and president Constance Hee Lau and court, ValueAct officials concluded the letter was “un-Hawaiian,” and perhaps frankly too critical for Hawaii’s business community and a culture that values harmony and non-confrontation. Too critical?

Un-Hawaiian? Corporations led by Hawaiian Electric founder William W. Hall overthrew the Kingdom of Hawai’i first in 1887, and then officially in January 1893. Corporations became the new monarchy, and peasants are not allowed to criticize the kings and queens. The monarchy certainly does claim to be IMMUNE to criticism. Hawaiian Electric officials confront when it suits their agenda.

Hawaiian Electric retained legal services of their top gunslinger, Randall C. Whattoff (9487), and firm of Cox Fricke LLP, to sue the County of Maui over the Lahaina wildfire disaster. HECO relied on the expertise of Whattoff to pummel pro se litigant Scott Goold in his wrongful termination action. HECO certainly does not value harmony. HECO CEO & president Shelee Kimura now denies culpability in the destruction of the historic city and death of at least 101+ human beings.

Another example shows how StarAdvertiser reporter, Dave Segal, was pounded for publishing salary figures of HEI CEO Constance Hee Lau in May 2019. Asians do not appreciate the public knowing they make over 100 times in one year what a typical worker in Hawai’i makes in one. Shame on Dave!

HEI CEO Constance Hee Lau tops isles' salaries at $5.7 Million.

Veteran award-winning journalist Dave Segal boasts more than 50 years of experience in the industry, including more than two decades at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and predecessor, Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Dave hasn’t said much about Asian Executive compensation at Hawaiian Electric since 2019. Don’t embarrass the kings and queens!

Coincidence or Premonition?

HECO recruited Scott Goold to O’ahu on August 8, 2018. Scott soon began warning residents of HECO executive and management incompetence. Exactly five years later, on August 8, 2023, HECO’s downed power lines ignited wildfires that consumed the historic town of Lahaina, incinerated at least 101+ human beings, including keiki, destroyed over 2,200 homes and businesses, and left more than 13,000+ member of our Hawaiian ‘Ohana destitute. Coincidence?

Scott Goold has been warning about Hawaiian Electric incompetence, negligence and arrogance for five years. UH-Manoa researchers warned HECO and government officials in 2014 about extreme wildfire danger surrounding Maui and the Lahaina area. HECO executives took little action. Electricity providers were warned after the disastrous and deadly California Camp Fire in 2018 that power lines must be de-energized in high wind conditions. HECO executives failed to develop a plan.

After the Lahaina fire, HECO executives were criticized for not having such a power shutoff plan. HECO spokesperson, Jim Kelly, announced last month the company’s plan, which is a DATE LATE and DOLLAR SHORT for victims of Lahaina.

PSPS [Public Safety Power Shutoff] Maps

Competent officials would have prepared these maps after the lessons learned from CA Camp Fire in 2018. HECO executives are criminally negligent, but officials protect each other in the Aloha State. HECO identified specific areas on each island that have high wildfire risk and may be subject to PSPS. Areas were selected due to fire history, wind data, vegetation, evacuation routes and location of Hawaiian Electric infrastructure for Big Island (left), Maui (center) and O’ahu (right).

The Looming Disaster in Kahuku region of O’ahu

Scott Goold now warns of an impending, looming disaster that is highly-likely to destroy homes, businesses and schools; kill resident families, including keiki, and similar to Lahaina, leave tens of thousands homeless and destitute.

CivilBeat, April 2021, reported on a public concern whether or not the state is doing enough to protect an endangered bat species from being killed by giant windmills is the subject of a state Supreme Court case. CivilBeat missed the biggest concern! Scott Goold has been warning for years.

These massive 500′ plus towers have NOT been tested for superstorm or hurricane strength winds. Experts warn that climate change will increase the number and intensity of storms, hurricanes, winds, rains, drought periods and extreme winds. These turbines will not survive.

ABC News featured turbine failure and disaster recently in Iowa. Extreme winds collapsed the turbine, which then caught on fire. In extreme drought, arid and dry conditions, extreme high winds in the Kahuku area will topple wind turbines onto schools, homes, tinder dry grasses, and fires will rage across the region — as witnessed in Lahaina.

Hawaiian Electric executives claim they should not be criticized. Scott Goold is criticizing and shouting loudly. Scott Goold warned CivilBeat staff, including Patti Epler, Ben Nishimoto, Kim Gamel, Nathan Eagle, John Hill, Jessica Terrell, Chad Blair and David Croxford. See Something! Say Something!

Better Solutions for Hawai’i

Scott Goold first warned that HECO’s solar program would require about 15 MILLION panels consuming over 5,200+ football fields of rooftop or green spaces; double this figure to power EVs. Scott recommended continuing use of coal in our tiny islands to provide diversity from the primary source of diesel oil. It will take Hawai’i residents over 5,000 years to use as much coal as China does in one year. Scott has recommended use of LNG (liquified natural gas). Governor Green joined Scott in this recommendation months ago.

In the middle of the Pacific, solar and wind are not optimal sources of primary electricity generation. Scott Goold beginning in 2012 demonstrated how Hydrogen fuel (H2) could be produced locally using geothermal on Big Island and concentrated solar arrays on other islands. H2 can be transported, shipped and used like oil & gas today.

At this time, HECO generates about 20% of electricity from solar production. In dark gray skies of storms, this production drops significantly causing brown outs, rolling blackouts or loss of electrical power. H2 systems would not suffer similarly. H2 is clean, renewable and the ultimate solution to tackle climate change and global warming issues.

Scott Goold has criticized the Hawaiian Electric kings and queens. It is un-Hawaiian and un-American not to challenge officially publicly. James Madison, writing in Federalist 51, noted that human beings are NOT angels, contrary to what Constance Hee Lau, Alan Oshima, current HEI CEO & president Scott Seu, and current HECO CEO & president Shelee Kimura hope you will believe.

Constance Hee Lau, Alan Oshima, current HEI CEO & president Scott Seu, and current HECO CEO & president Shelee Kimura are not angels and pound others when it suits their purposes.

To remain safe, ambition must check ambition in our world. Snowflake Asian executives are not privileged or entitled. Scott Seu makes over $5 MILLION per year; Shelee Kimura over $2 MILLION per year … they are not immune from criticism, and in fact, citizens must criticize. Lahaina as why!!!
