American Heart Association PROVES Cannabis Users More Healthy than General Population

OPEN LETTER to:
Hawai’i Governor Josh Green, MD
State Senator Mike Gabbard
TY Cheng, President Aloha Green Apothecary
Morgan Fox, NORML Project Director
Abra M. Jeffers, MD, Massachusetts General Hospital

Hawai’i is currently debating whether to legalize recreational cannabis (marihuana). The boo-birds opposed tend to be OLDER, Asian and White conservatives. They support drinking of alcohol, smoking tobacco, vaping nicotine and consuming caffeine, but continue tired and worn out stereotypes of America’s racist past.

Progressive folks view cannabis as a “soft” recreational drug that relaxes people, helps them sleep and eat better, and allows them to decompress after a long day. Many consider cannabis to be more safe than alcohol or tobacco.

As the federal government classified cannabis as a Schedule I substance in 1970, formal study has been prohibited for some 54 years. Researchers wishing to understand the effects of cannabis use have been frustrated by the USA-imposed Dark Ages. Due to recreational legalization in 24 states, and nearly double the number of medical cannabis legal states, researchers have been able to work around the federal restrictions.

JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION STUDY

Published February 28, 2024 [source]

Researchers examined behavior and health of 434 ,104 respondents, using population‐based, cross‐sectional study of 2016 to 2020 data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey from 27 American states and 2 territories. Their first analysis included the entire sample 18 to 74 years old controlling for tobacco cigarette use and other covariates. Second analysis was conducted among the respondents who had never used tobacco cigarettes, and the third analysis was conducted among respondents who had never used tobacco cigarettes or e‐cigarettes.

CONCLUSION: Cannabis-ONLY Users are MORE HEALTHY than General Population. Tobacco smokers are unhealthy. Cannabis Users who smoke tobacco are also less healthy than general population. Do not smoke tobacco! And, for optimal health, cannabis may be an option for you.

Years ago I worked with Dr. Stan Glantz, who was one of the study reseachers, as we battled Big Tobacco. We were highly successful. Unfortunately, Drs Jeffers and Glantz incorrectly reported the findings from this study, and media uses the study to mislead the public with more FALSE stereotypes about cannabis use. It’s not really that difficult. We assume both of you are smart people. How did you miss these amazing results?

Cannabis-Only DAILY and Non-DAILY Users MORE HEALTHY than the general population that has NEVER used cannabis !!! Be healthy … use cannabis !!!

JAHA: Association of Cannabis Use With Cardiovascular Outcomes Among US Adults. Screenshot Table 3
JAHA: Association of Cannabis Use With Cardiovascular Outcomes Among US Adults. Screenshot Table 3

1. Obesity Total: 31.0%; Daily Cannabis Use: 26.1%; Non-Daily Cannabis Use: 23.0%; Never: 31.6%. Cannabis users have LOWER RATES of obesity and obesity is massive challenge in USA today.

2. Diabetes Total: 9.0%; Daily Cannabis Use: 5.5%; Non-Daily Cannabis Use: 3.5%; Never: 9.3%. Cannabis users have LOWER RATES of diabetes and diabetes is massive challenge in USA today.

3. Physical Activity Total: 77.7%; Daily Cannabis Use: 80.6%; Non-Daily Cannabis Use: 86.8%; Never: 77.2%. Cannabis users have HIGHER RATES of physical activity, which likely contributes to lower rates in other areas.

4. Coronary Heart Disease Total: 2.2%; Daily Cannabis Use: 2.0%; Non-Daily Cannabis Use: 0.9%; Never: 31.6%. Cannabis users have LOWER RATES of CHD and CHD is key challenge in USA today. NOTE: Confidence intervals for Daily Users suggest caution interpreting this finding.

5. Myocardial Infarction Total: 2.0%; Daily Cannabis Use: 1.7%; Non-Daily Cannabis Use: 1.3%; Never: 2.1%. Cannabis users have LOWER RATES of MI and MI is key challenge in USA today. NOTE: Confidence intervals for Daily Users suggest caution interpreting this finding.

6. Stroke Total: 1.8%; Daily Cannabis Use: 2.6% (CI: 1.6-3.5); Non-Daily Cannabis Use: 1.0%; Never: 1.9%. Non-Daily Cannabis users have LOWER RATES of stroke and stroke is key challenge in USA today. NOTE: Confidence intervals for Daily Users suggest SPURIOUS FINDINGS and caution should be used interpreting this associative finding.

Daily users have 1.6% to 3.5% chance of stroke. 1.6% to 3.5% are equally likely to occur. Sample size is therefore too small to suggest associative findings and draw conclusions.

7. Composite Total: 4.8%; Daily Cannabis Use: 4.9% (CI: 3.5-6.2); Non-Daily Cannabis Use: 2.7%; Never: 4.9%. Non-Daily Cannabis users have LOWER RATES of Composite and Composite is key challenge in USA today. NOTE: Confidence intervals for Daily Users suggest SPURIOUS FINDINGS and caution should be used interpreting this associative finding.

Daily user have SAME EXPECTATION OF COMPOSITE MEDICAL CONCERNS as NEVER USED Cannabis: 4.9%. However, confidence intervals for Daily Users show 3.5% to 6.2% are equally likely to occur. Sample size is therefore too small to suggest associative findings and draw conclusions.

SUMMARY

Examining Cannabis-Only users shows this subpopulation exceeds the general population in ALL areas, except the spurious finding for Daily Use & Stroke, as well as Daily Use & Composite Total. In the latter, Daily Cannabis Users are equal in expected outcomes to the NEVER USED CANNABIS cohort.

Cannabis-Only Users are therefore in BETTER HEALTH than NEVER USED Cannabis group.

TOBACCO USERS are the group who have the poor health !!! Research is unlimited in this findings. Tobacco Users who also use cannabis have poor health. However, cannabis-users who do not use tobacco have excellent health.

By virtue of logic, we confidently claim that TOBACCO use is a key indicator of poor health; not cannabis. Why were Drs Jeffers and Glantz unable to arrive at these revolutionary findings: Bias or ignorance?
